Greypaw woke and began the border patrol. Lionheart tested him in sound and sight as they walked and the apprentice hoped he was pleased with what he had done. But throughout the entire patrol his mind was on almost everything but the actual patrol until his mentor forced it back with a question. He had almost completly missed the scent of fox close to the border of fourtrees. When finally they returned to camp he sighed and took a mouse and ate, talking with Firepaw as he did, but even then he could not keep his mind on the conversation. A brown she-cat entered camp and his fur shuddered.
"You alright?" Firestar asked finally poking him with a paw, "Because you don't look so good at all. Maybe you should go see Spottedleaf."
"Yeah," Greypaw agreed standing, "Maybe that is what I need." He padded to the medicine cat's den relieved to find her inside. What she was doing he wasn't entirely sure, nor did he care exactly. He cleared his throat to let her know he had entered then hesitated, not entirely sure what he should say.
"Hey, umm . . . Spottedleaf. I was wondering if you could help me with something."

Spottedleaf looked up from restocking her coltfoot upon hearing Graypaw voice. "Yes, Graypaw? What's the matter?" She asked, leaving her herbs to face the tom. She swished her tail lightly across the den floor, collected dust by accident. She glanced back, a frustrated look on her face. I'll clean it later. She thought, turning back to the gray apprentice. For the past few sunrises, the tortoiseshell she-cat had been replenishing her store of herbs, and, with the help of others, had succeeded in doing so. Now, all she had to worry about were thorns in pads, ticks, and battle wounds, which were rare nowadays.
What Spottedleaf really needed, was an apprentice. And so far, not a single apprentice was taking any intrest in the position. She had often wondered if something were to happen and she'd die before she ever found an apprentice, let alone taught them enough about healing wounds and treating greencough and whitecough. The thought of death made Spottedleaf shudder. The young she-cat had always hated death, but she supposed she should get used to it. After all, a medicine cat's job was to prevent death, wasn't it?

Greypaw shuffled his paws and his ears twiched when she answered. He had half hoped she would ask if he was sick or hurt and he'd say no and she'd tell him that she didn't have time to take care of him now and send him back to his fresh kill. Finally findig his voice he said,
"Well, Firepaw was the one who thought I should see you really," He sat down and looked over her herbs unable to identify any of them except for the small pile of poppy seeds, but he didn't know what they were for. "I'm having trouble focusing on my training and I, well we, were wondering if there was an herb or something that could make me focus."

Spottedleaf thought for a moment. That was an odd request. She had never heard any other cat ask her that. But there was this one cat... She tried to remember, but it wouldn't come. Finally, she came up with something. "When you mean 'trouble focusing', do you mean that your getting distracted, or not feeling well? Like blurring vision, headaches, or stomache pains?" She let out a small yawn. She hadn't slept well the last few nights and it was really bothering her. But she couldn't figure out what was wrong. She pushed her own worries away, clearly this was about Graypaw's problem's, not her own.

[OOC]It's big enough i suppose. . . [/OOC]
"Well, no its not me getting sick or anything." He admitted "I can still see straight and all. It's just that I can't think about what's in front of me no matter what I do. I just keep thinking about . . ." He hesitated, wondering if he was willing to tell the medicine cat what was in his head. If he did would she tell another cat? He didn't want to risk that and said "well, something else. So maybe I was hoping you ad something to make me not think about he- um, it . . . so I can finish my training. And then theres things like, what if there's a fight and i can't focus? another cat might get hurt. You see? So, um, do you have anything like that?"

Spottedleaf, feeling helpless, shook her head. "No, I'm sorry. I've never heard of an herb that can help cats focus on training." She confessed, then added. "Maybe you should try getting more sleep. I can give you some poppy seeds." She stepped back to look for the small seeds. Picking some up in her paw, she carried them back over. "Here," She said, hoping he would take them.

Graypaw sighed and looked at the seeds. Sleeping would help when he was laying in the den doing nothing but staring at the entrance waiting for something that would never happen. But in the end they wouldn't help him train. "Well, what if you had something that could make me stop thinking about . . . the stuff I'm thinking about? Then I'd have to focus on my training, wouldn't I?"
His claws unsheathed at the thought that she wouldn't have a solution for him. So many consequences sprang into his mind if one wasn't found. He might never be a warrior. He feared retaliation from his thoughts. The clan might start being ashamed of him. What if he was exiled? The forest's oldest loner apprentice. That's a great name, isn't it . . . "There has to be something in here Spottedleaf."

Spottedleaf was beginning to get annoyed with the pesky apprentice "Graypaw," She said calmly, "I told you once, I'm not going to tell you again. I do not have anything that will help you with just training." She turned away, padding over to Rainpaw, who was beginning to stur in his nest. "I need to tend to Rainpaw now, so if you could just... leave." She had never asked anyone to leave like that, but Graypaw was really getting on her nerves. Why can't he just accepted it?

"Well, I know, but this isn't about just training it's about everything. I just want to stop thinking about it ok." He resisted the urge to snap back at the medicine cat. Why was she being so harsh with him? He only wanted a little help. But if he shouted at her there'd be no chance that she would help him so he held his tongue.
"Maybe, um," He tried to find the right words, "well, maybe there's some herb that might help. Or like putting two herbs together that did different things might have the right effect when put together and you just havn't thought of them. I could try to help you find the right herbs." He looked around her to where she was taking care of Rainpaw and stepped forward. She was still hurt pretty bad, and she probably didnt remember much still. But as he began to think of Rainpaw and his condition he began to think about other cats who were probably worried about him. And that thought led to . . . Fox-dung! Here too? But this time a second thought came from it. "What if I helped you with Rainpaw?"

Spottedleaf stiffled a groan as the gray apprentice continued on. I've told you I don't have anything, so why won't you listen?! She could feel him creep up and stand by her, looked down at Rainpaw aswell. "Well I suppose..." We're just going to have to wait until he wakes up. "Alright." The tortoiseshell looked over at her stock of herbs. She hadn't yet found anything that could help Rainpaw memory wise, so she treated his wounds instead, thinking that his memory was up to him.
It seemed that the scratch on the tom's flank had reopened, judging by the bleeding. "Could you get me some cobwebs? And some Marigold if we have any?" She asked, looking over at Graypaw. "You know, Graypaw," She said after awhile, "It would help me a lot more if you would tell me exactly what is distracting you." She hoped the tom would listen to her and, in turn, tell her what was really bothing him. "It makes my job a bit easier."

Graypaw looked at the apprentice as Spottedleaf assesed his condition. He turned away and looked at the store of herbs in the den. cobwebs, cobwebs, what are cobwebs? Finally he remembered: cobwebs were those sticky little strings that spiders lived in. He had found them so easily when Sparrowflight had been hurt before. He found a clump of them and wrapped them around his paw and brought them back to Spottedleaf before asking, "Um, what does Marigold look like?"
He hesitated at her question. He was hoping to get the herb or whatever without having to tell her. His tail tip twiched and he glanced outside the entrance to the den wondering if any cat was close enough to hear. "Fine," He finally sighed, "But if I tell you then you have to promise not to tell any cat ok?"

Spottedleaf flicked her ear at the young tom's hesitation. What could the apprentice be hiding? "Well," she started, turning to face Graypaw, "if what you're about to tell me is as bad as you seem to think, I will have to tell Bluestar." As the tortoiseshell she-cat was about to continue, she noticed Rainpaw start to fidget, which caused more blood to seep from his open wound. Spottedleaf turned abruptly and began applying the cobweb that Graypaw had gathered. "Marigold is bright red and yellow. It should be towards the back since we haven't used any for some time."
After cleaning up most of the blood, Spottedleaf thought a bit more about Graypaw's request. He says he's having trouble focusing, so whatever he might tell me could be anything. Fear is a powerful emotion and can manipulate how a cat feels and thinks, so maybe he's afraid of something. What could Graypaw be so afraid of that I have to promise not to tell any cat? Spottedleaf flicked her tail sharply, knowing that whatever Graypaw would tell her could be of extreme importance. Well, whatever it is, it should be in my best interest to find out. The she-cat turned back to the gray tom, giving him her full attention. "Yes, I promise."

Graypaw's head sank slightly at the medicine cats words. She would tell Bluestar. He turned back into the store and rooted through the herbs. Well, Bluestar was just one cat wasn't she. It wasn't like she was announcing it to the whole clan was she? Finally he found the little flower and picked it up carefully in his teeth. Would such a tiny flower actually help Rainpaw?
He placed the flower next to Rainpaw, close to Spottedleaf, and nearly jumped out of his fur as she gave him her word. "You really mean it? You won't tell anyone?" Suddenly nervous Graypaw sat down and curled around his shuffling paws. "It's Sparrowflight. Your friend. I really like her. But it's a different really like than what I'm used to. I mean, I have friends like Firepaw and Ravenpaw, but this is not the same kind of friend. You know? And its making me act different too. Like with that loner Leaf. I think I genuinely wanted to kill him for what he did to her."
